Rocking up for the specific purpose of seeing
Lyrical Commisssion and Hilltop Hoods I was
pleasantly surprised to see a whole bunch of
people not so underage knocking back a few brews
outside. It was great to see a whole bunch of
regular hip hop crew not dettered by the all
ages announcement, many of whom were competing
in the MC battle the previous night. It’s
really good to see how many people were out
in force supporting Australian Hip Hop.
I saw a little bit of the B-Boy battle but
unfortunately it was pretty packed and difficult
to see what was going on so I have no idea who
did the best windmills, who was good at poppin
and lockin, who could uprock like turbo and
ozone or ultimately who won. Seeing lyrical
weren’t on for a while we decided to bail
to the closest bar and join in the drinking
shenanegins. When we rocked back in our ears
were graced by the sounds of DJ Brand playing
a whole bunch of funk and hip hop that had the
crowd moving.
A little wait around and a very drunk Brad
Strut could be heard backstage, closely followed
by Trem and Bob Balance with the beat to ‘blood
red skies’ pumped out of the wheels of
steel by J-Red. That fucken guitar riff rocks,
the rhymes are a declaration of war of words,
the commission, lyrically are seriously going
to fuck their rivals up. It’s a skilful
way of presenting a simple argument; lc’s
rhymes are eminent and crews will be fucked
if they step to them.
After that the order in which tracks were played
becomes sketchy yet I can still remember the
tracks themselves. Carlton United Tragedy.
Trem was almost like a hip hop teacher
